I am new to the SFI I would like to add a banner to my gateway web sight. How do I do this?
The instructions say to add the banner to the page, but I do not know how to get the the web design page. Does any one know how to place a banner on the SFI web page? DG |

I am fairly new to this, and I am going to attempt to anwser your question.
As Far as My Knowledge goes, you can not place any Banners to your SFI Gateways, You cannot access the web design page, You may only change the following at the bottom of your "Edit Gateways"(located in your SFI admin area). Phone Fax Aol Instant Messager and ICQ Although all of these are optional I hope this helps! ChRiS |

No wonder I was having difficulties
I can see why I was having difficulties.
I am confused about the way they explain to edit the html code - can you explain to me what they mean by domain_name/123? Thanks Don |

The instruction reads "After you've positoned your banner on your Website, make sure it's linked to your "DSL" Gateway URL (www.yourgateway.com/123/DSL)."
What this means is that you are to substitute your own SFI gateway domain name (ezinfocenter, quickinfo247 or moreinfo247) for the part that reads "yourgateway" and your own SFI ID number for the 123. Be sure to use a keycode there as well so you that know where your referrals come from to allow you to repeat your successes. The keycode is entered immediately behind your SFI ID number and starts with a period (decimal point or dot). Even if you are not yet allowed to use keycodes, it is good practice and will help when you are allowed to use them. A keycode is a number that you choose, from 1 through 9999, that you use to identify where you have placed an ad. The numbers 1100 and 1111 as well as 3100 through 3199 are reserved for SFI. 1100 is for the Eagle Co-op, 1111 is for the One World Co-op, and 3100 through 3199 are for your Team Leader co-ops (when you start them). To see what the name looks like, visit the SFI Affiliate Resource Center, log into your Admin area and click on View/Edit Gateway(s). There you can also read a description of each page and click on each one see what is actually there. Read this thread for help in using banners. Elmarc Last edited by Elmarc; 11-17-2006 at 12:27 PM. Reason: Added moreinfo domain name and keycode description. |

I wrote this elsewhere some time ago, but the principles don't really change. Some of the links may have died since then.
Once you have gone as far as this takes you, bring your remaining questions here. You have asked a very open ended question. Most of us are still learning the answers to it. The answer you need right now depends on what you want to do with the web site. The overall site building process has been pretty well defined. First, define why you want a web site. Next define what you want it to accomplish. You can display your interests, run a business, share your pictures, or almost anything else that gets your attention. When the first two questions are answered, figure out what you are willing to spend to get the site up and running your way. Decide how much time you will spend on it, how much (if any) money you will spend on it, how much effort you will put into it, how much you will share control of it and how much advertising you will allow. If you are comfortable with computer programming, start with HTML, add CSS and JasvaScript, and be prepared to keep on going. The 'net is changing all the time. If you are more of a user who prefers to point and click, pick a graphic program that does the coding for you. Look over the other questions here for answers about editors. Learn at least the basics of HTML so you can fine tune a cut-and-paste goodie you find or troubleshoot your site when it misbehaves. You will need a text or graphical editor for HTML and an FTP program to build and maintain your site. The choice of which one is intensely personal and is a whole question in itself. You will see several questions and answers on this subject here. Now that you are ready to begin, grab a few sheets of paper. Draw a story board of the site. This is a quick sketch of what you will show your visitors when they come to your site. The idea is not to make art, but to keep your plan intact, despite distractions. Map out the paths from page to page. Put similar thoughts together and make separate pages for differing thoughts. Your home page should be a welcome mat, not the living room/dining room. Make the home page brief. Estimates of how long you have to get your reader's attention range from 6 seconds! for a business site to 30 seconds (sometimes more) for a hobby grade site. Put down an idea of how to navigate from page to page. Do you want a custom interface or plain links? Your sites's style will be set in part by how a visitor navigates. Make the "controls" the same on every page so your visitor doesn't get lost or confused. Keep a central theme for your site. Get advice on style, content, coding and graphics, but this is you, not a group of folk from the neigborhood, all talking at once. The time/money budget you worked up before will give you most of the answers of whether to hire a web builder and a paid site or get free software, write it yourself, and put it on a free server. Which server depends a lot on the answer in your budget. If you are going to "roll your own", make a couple of bookmark folders (favorites directories) for all the stuff you find as you search out the next hot item for your site. You won't be able to use everything you find as you go because you will find stuff for later. I have bookmark folders for Webmaster and for Graphics. A sample of the stuff in them is at the end of this answer. I learned the core skills from HTML for Dummies Quick Reference and recommend it. Also check your local libray for books on HTML. There are many other fine books and many, many resources on the 'net, like <http://www.volition.com/htmlguid.html> which not only have tutorials, but have software tools and references galore. The author of the site even recommends another book, despite being told not to buy one! I recommend any book for reference that is easy for you to use and has lots of wide margins. My book has little white space left, so it is very helpful! The last point I will make now is don't forget to advertise. Put META tags in your homepage, at least, and submit your site to the busiest search engines. There's no other way anyone can tell everyone who will be interested about a new web site. There will be bumps in the road, but if you don't panic, it will turn out well. Elmarc,
Wow - that is a lot of information and it demonstrates a ton of time and work - with your vast amount of knowledge in this program - let me ask you a couple of questions??? 1. How long did it take you to get EA - did you do it by making your own purchase or get someone else to get you the SVP points? 2. How long have you been doing the SFI Program? 3. How much money have you made in that time? 4. Do you have your own website? What is the URL? 5. Are you selling other products than the limited SFI ones that are available? I could go on and on but those questions are straightforward enough to help me understand where to go with this! Thanks much, rkeinc  |

Exactly how to bookmark depends on which browser you use, but there are common methods that apply most of the time.
The most common is to hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the D key. To see how else to bookmark, look up bookmarks or favorites in the help files, typically linked at the very top of your screen. Elmarc |

I am trying to find out if I can build a custom website with SFI. I am currently selling other e-books from an other affiliate program and would like to combine both. My only problem is that I can't keep a consistent look on my website. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Guillermo  |

Setup Your Own Website
Steps to setup your own website.
1 - Get a Domain Name. While it is not absolutely necessary to own a domain in order to get hosted, it is the smarter business choice. The less expensive hosting needs you have a domain name. Buy one from a domain name Registrar. You’ll get username and password to access your Registrar account here so that only you will be able to make changes to the domain. 2 - Get a Hosting Account A hosting account is really just your getting some space reserved for your webpages on a computer called a webserver. This computer will usually have a direct, “always on” connection to the backbone of the Internet. This allows access to the pages by anyone on the Internet. There are some free ones. Some ISP's make some space available for users. The free ones do not usually use domain names. You could however get some benefit of a domain name by redirecting it to a free website account. The better way is to get your own hosting account and your own domain name. They will want the name of your domain. Note: You can pick an inexpensive host to start with. It is easy to change later if you want to. 3 – Give Your Registrar The Host’s Nameservers You are the person who has to make the connections here. You see, neither the domain name registrar nor the webhosting company know that they are going to work together to show your website to the World. Your hosting company will give you the names of their dns nameservers. It is usually in the form of nameserver1: ns1.myhost.com nameserver2: ns2.myhost.com You simply relay this information to the domain name registrar. The registrar places the information into the internet's domain name database where it is passed from router to router throughout the internet. It all happens automatically. This takes about 24 to 48 hours. Note: If you get the hosting account FIRST, you will have the nameserver info and can sometimes input that when you make the purchase of the domain name. 4 - Upload your webpages to your your space on the webserver. Your hosting company will give you the URL (internet address) to log into and your user name and password. This prevents anyone else from making changes to your pages. Uploading can be done by a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program from your computer. Try Netscape Composer to create the pages. Try SmartFTP to upload the pages. It is easier DONE than SAID. Recap:>> Get a domain name from a Registrar and get a hosting account. Tell the Hosting account the name of your domain. Tell the Registrar the Nameservers of the hosting company. Put your pages on the hosting account webserver. John Wilson |
